Wie deelneemt aan Camp Liberty ontvangt een routeboek. En niet zomaar een! Het is een historisch naslagwerk, speciaal samengesteld voor onze deelnemers, vol routes, verhalen, foto’s en plekken waar de geschiedenis van september 1944 nog altijd voelbaar is.

Dit jaar breiden we het routeboek uit met een 6e rit. Deze nieuwe route is geschreven door Dirk Paagman, auteur van De Bevrijders van Schijndel, en staat in het teken van het indrukwekkende verhaal van Kampina Airborne.

Tijdens Operatie Market Garden kwamen Britse en Amerikaanse gliders door misdrops en noodlandingen ver van hun oorspronkelijke landingszones terecht. De inzittenden, afkomstig van onder meer de Britse 1st Airborne Divisie en de Amerikaanse 101st en 82nd Airborne Divisie, bevonden zich plots midden in bezet gebied. Wat volgde was een spannend kat en muis spel met de Duitse bezetter, waarbij het lokale verzet alles op alles zette om de militairen verborgen te houden, te voeden en uiteindelijk veilig door deze gevaarlijke periode heen te helpen.

Een verhaal dat bijna te bijzonder klinkt om waar te zijn, maar zich gewoon hier in onze eigen regio heeft afgespeeld.

Naast deze nieuwe rit bevat het routeboek routes over de luchtlandingen en gevechten rond Son en Breugel, de Duitse tegenaanvallen van Kampfgruppe Walther en Panzerbrigade 107, de zware strijd richting Nuenen, Veghel, de Peel en Overloon, een korte onverharde rit door het Brabantse landschap en natuurlijk de bijzondere route over de Slag om Schijndel.

Met deze toevoeging groeit het routeboek van Camp Liberty 2026 uit tot bijna 300 pagina’s en 6 ritten. Vanwege de vele internationale deelnemers zal het routeboek dit jaar ook in het Engels beschikbaar zijn.

Het routeboek is exclusief voor deelnemers en is niet los verkrijgbaar.

The Camp Liberty 2026 Route Book Becomes Even More Special

Everyone taking part in Camp Liberty receives a route book. And not just any route book! It is a historical reference guide, specially compiled for our participants, filled with routes, stories, photographs and locations where the history of September 1944 can still be experienced today.

This year, we are expanding the route book with a sixth tour. This new route has been written by Dirk Paagman, author of The Liberators of Schijndel, and focuses on the remarkable story of Kampina Airborne.

During Operation Market Garden, British and American glider troops were often scattered far from their intended landing zones due to misdrops and forced landings. Personnel from units including the British 1st Airborne Division and the American 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions suddenly found themselves deep inside occupied territory. What followed was a dramatic game of cat and mouse with the German occupiers, during which the local resistance did everything possible to hide, feed and ultimately help these servicemen survive one of the most dangerous periods of the war.

It is a story that sounds almost too extraordinary to be true, yet it unfolded right here in our own region.

In addition to this new tour, the route book includes routes covering the airborne landings and fighting around Son and Breugel, the German counter-attacks by Kampfgruppe Walther and Panzer Brigade 107, the fierce battles towards Nuenen, Veghel, De Peel and Overloon, a short off-road route through the Brabant countryside, and of course the unique route dedicated to the Battle of Schijndel.

With this addition, the Camp Liberty 2026 route book will grow to almost 300 pages and feature six separate tours. Owing to the large number of international participants, the route book will also be available in English this year.

Le carnet de route de Camp Liberty 2026 devient encore plus exceptionnel

Les participants à Camp Liberty reçoivent un carnet de route. Et pas n’importe lequel ! Il s’agit d’un véritable ouvrage historique de référence, spécialement conçu pour nos participants, rempli d’itinéraires, de récits, de photographies et de lieux où l’histoire de septembre 1944 reste encore aujourd’hui palpable.

Cette année, nous enrichissons le carnet de route avec un sixième parcours. Ce nouvel itinéraire a été rédigé par Dirk Paagman, auteur de De Bevrijders van Schijndel, et est consacré à l’impressionnante histoire de Kampina Airborne.

Au cours de l’opération Market Garden, des planeurs britanniques et américains se retrouvèrent, à la suite de largages imprécis et d’atterrissages forcés, bien loin de leurs zones d’atterrissage prévues. Leurs occupants, issus notamment de la 1st Airborne Division britannique ainsi que des 101st et 82nd Airborne Divisions américaines, se retrouvèrent soudainement en plein territoire occupé.

S’ensuivit un véritable jeu du chat et de la souris avec l’occupant allemand, tandis que la résistance locale faisait tout son possible pour cacher ces militaires, les nourrir et les aider à traverser cette période extrêmement dangereuse en sécurité. Une histoire presque trop extraordinaire pour être vraie, et pourtant elle s’est déroulée ici même, dans notre région.

Outre ce nouvel itinéraire, le carnet comprend également des parcours consacrés aux opérations aéroportées et aux combats autour de Son et Breugel, aux contre-attaques allemandes menées par la Kampfgruppe Walther et la Panzerbrigade 107, aux violents affrontements en direction de Nuenen, Veghel, De Peel et Overloon, à un court parcours hors route à travers la campagne brabançonne, ainsi qu’à l’itinéraire consacré à la bataille de Schijndel.

Grâce à cet ajout, le carnet de route de Camp Liberty 2026 atteindra près de 300 pages et proposera six parcours différents.

En raison du grand nombre de participants internationaux, le carnet de route sera également disponible cette année en version anglaise.
